Hybrid Car Battery Cost

The high hybrid car battery cost is one thing that makes hybrid cars more expensive than traditional gas powered vehicles. The NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries have a high nickel content, which is costly.

Eventually, as demand increases, the amount of battery suppliers will also increase and the high volumes of hybrid car batteries will help bring prices down.

A hybrid car battery could be a few thousand dollars to replace, but there doesn't seem to be a common consensus about this because so far, the batteries out there are performing well into the hybrid cars' life spans. They are meant to last the lifetime of the car, and are warranteed for 8 years or 80,000 miles. In California, it's even longer, at 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Some manufacturers are developing ways to replace defective cells within the battery pads rather than replacing the whole thing, thus saving a lot of expense.
